Frequently Asked Question

What does a bookkeeper actually do?

A bookkeeper keeps your day-to-day financial records accurate, organized, and up to date. That means categorizing transactions, reconciling your bank and credit card accounts, tracking income and expenses, and giving you clean monthly reports. The result: you always know where your business stands without having to dig through statements yourself.

Do I need a bookkeeper or an accountant?

Most small businesses need both, but they do different things. A bookkeeper handles the ongoing record-keeping — reconciliations, categorization, monthly reports. An accountant or CPA uses those records to file taxes, advise on bigger financial decisions, and handle compliance. Good bookkeeping all year long is what makes tax time much easier for your accountant.

How much does monthly bookkeeping cost for a small business?

At Always Keeping Pace, monthly bookkeeping starts at $325/month for our Starter plan and goes up to $795/month for Premium. Pricing depends on the number of accounts you have and how much support you need. Add-ons like payroll, sales tax filings, and 1099 preparation are available separately so you only pay for what you actually need.

Can I work with a bookkeeper remotely?

Yes — and most modern small businesses do. We work with clients across the country using QuickBooks Online, secure document sharing, and clear communication. No in-person meetings required. Whether you’re around the corner in the Upstate or across the country in Florida, the experience is the same: clean books, clear reports, and someone who answers when you have questions.

What bookkeeping software do you use?

We work in QuickBooks Online, the industry standard for small business bookkeeping. If you’re already using QuickBooks, we can pick up where you are. If you’re not, we’ll help you get set up the right way from the start. We’re a QuickBooks Online Certified ProAdvisor, so you’re in experienced hands.

Do you also handle taxes?

Tax preparation is coming soon. Right now, we focus on keeping your books clean so your accountant or CPA can file your taxes quickly and accurately. If you don’t have a tax preparer yet, we’re happy to connect you with one. The cleaner your books, the simpler — and usually cheaper — tax season becomes.

How do I know my business is ready for a bookkeeper?

A few signs: you’re avoiding your numbers, tax season feels chaotic, you’re spending evenings on admin work, your business is growing but you don’t feel in control, or you’re making decisions based on gut feeling instead of clear data. If any of those sound familiar, you’re not alone — and it’s probably time to talk.

How is my financial information kept secure?

Your data lives in secure, encrypted platforms — QuickBooks Online, password-protected document sharing, and protected communication. We never store sensitive information on personal devices or send account details through unsecured email. Your books, your bank logins, and your business information are treated with the same care we’d want for our own.

Clean books. Clear numbers. Less stress for busy business owners.
